Sharing joy, celebrating the time we get to spend together, remembering that family matters more than ever right now. Let us begin with being thankful and grateful even when times are tough. Let us bring back some happiness with decorating for Christmas and enjoying some comfort food with our families.
Here are some fun ideas for your Christmas holiday.
- Tie fresh herbs such as sage, rosemary or bay leaves with kitchen twine or twine that you pick up from a craft store to your dinner napkins. They will add a pop of freshness to your dinner table. You can gather them after dinner and make a bouquet garnish for preparing a soup, casserole, or savory dinner dish for the next evening.
- Amaryllis bulbs in a vase for a centerpiece to bring brightness and cheer to the dinner table.
- Make your own Christmas wrapping paper with a large roll of craft-paper and stencils. Let your family members choose their own stencils to make their own unique personalized wrapping paper.
- Wreath of handprints. Take a framed canvas 24”X 24”, you can buy at any craft store, place a round bowl in the center of the canvas and draw a light line around the bowl. Depending on how many people or children want to participate, get one green color of paint per person. Put the paint on a plate and each person can put their hand in the paint. One by one, put your palm at the base of the circle, fingers pointed outward and press your handprint on the canvas. Overlapping slightly, each person takes their turn putting their handprint on the canvas until it is filled with handprints to make a circle/wreath. You then can take and draw a red bow using paint or use ribbon to make the bow. You can use red buttons or red paint to make the cranberries on the canvas. Enjoy making this memory with grandchildren, children or even adults and you can hang it on the wall to remember something happy about 2020.
These ideas might just be what our soles need right now. Stay healthy and safe during these difficult times.
