News Letter – May 2012,

Longing for spring, so we thought we’d highlight the color of the year for 2012 from Pantone Color Institute. Called Tangerine Tango, it’s described as a deep attention getting reddish orange. Think of the shadings of one of our beautiful Colorado sunsets.

Looking to add a pop of color to an otherwise neutral room? Tangerine Tango is sophisticated and optimistic. Paint an accent wall, slip a brightly patterned chair into your beige family room, and add some beautifully patterned pillows. We can help you select fabrics to have these made, or you can find selections at many Denver and Northern Colorado retailers. Try a contrast piping on the pillows and you’ll have a fun change for a modest cost. A great way to energize a room is with some bright tabletop accessories; add a taste of the exotic with some vases, candles or fresh flowers.

Not sure how to incorporate your favorite colors in your home? Let us help. Through the end of May we are offering design consultations for 50% off for the first hour, regularly $70.00 now $35.00. We specialize in window coverings of all types, but we’re also available for color and paint consultations, bedding and flooring ideas including a new line of area rugs that we are carrying. We are Hunter Douglas certified dealers, but also represent other manufacturers in order to offer you a wide variety, and help give you the best solution for the best value in your home or workplace. We have proudly served the Boulder, Longmont, Fort Collins, Loveland, Estes Park, Broomfield, Louisville, Lafayette areas for over 13 years.

Favorite Recipes

Cooking is one of my passions. We hope you love this family recipe as much as our families do. Email us with your favorite recipes as we will make this one of our continued features in our newsletter. Bon Appétite!

Chicken Piccata

2 boneless chicken breast

4 cups chicken broth

2 lemons 1 ½ for juice and the other ½ for garnish

2 cloves garlic finely chopped

4 TBSP capers —more if you like J

2 TBSP olive oil

2 TBSP corn starch for thickening

1 package spaghetti noodles/gluten free if you need

Parmesan cheese and 5-6 chopped Basil

Heat water for noodles, cook as directed on package. Gluten free noodles are a little tricky. Filet out the chicken breast and use meat tenderizer to pound out until ½” thick. Heat olive oil in pan. Add chicken and sauté approximately 5 minutes each side. Add garlic and sauté another 2 minutes. Add 3 cups chicken broth and mix the 2 TBSP corn starch in other cup of broth. Heat to low boil and slowly add broth/cornstarch to desired thickness. Add juice of 1 ½ lemons, more if you like tangy sauce. Add capers. I like to add my cooked noodles into the sauce and cook for a couple of minutes so they have nice flavor.

Pour onto large platter garnish with other ½ lemon in thin slices add parmesan cheese and fresh chopped Basil. Serve with your favorite salad and bread. Bon Appétit!

One of the most frequently asked questions is “Why would I choose a composite shutter vs. a real wood shutter?” Both Hunter Douglas Heritance® hardwood and NewStyle® hybrid shutters offer exquisitely crafted custom shutters with a multitude of design options and features to beautify your home.

Wood shutters are becoming an increasingly sought after product and have a “status” all their own because they not only look beautiful but they add value to the home. Hunter Douglas wood shutters are made with North American Hardwood, creating the look of “fine furniture for windows” bringing warmth, beauty and style to your windows.

Heritance hardwood shutters are constructed using the same craftsmanship that is used in fine furniture-using dovetail joinery and a multi-step finishing process. Heritance offers over 100 standard colors including 33 rich stains and 67 artisan paint colors and custom color matching giving you the ability to match existing woodwork, wall coverings or fabric or any color imaginable. Heritance offers more choices to customers with discerning taste.

Composite shutters are made from a mixture of wood and polymer which provide strength and stability and the look of a real hardwood shutter. NewStyle shutters are for those customers who want the prestige of shutters and the Hunter Douglas brand name but at a price that is affordable. There are six classic shades of white and four UltraGrain™ finishes that replicate the look of real wood to choose from.

Hunter Douglas Newstyle Shutter

Both Hunter Douglas wood and hybrid shutters are custom-designed and assembled in the USA which means quick delivery. Now, you don’t have to wait for your shutters to be shipped from outside of the country because they are made right here in the USA. Hunter Douglas shutters are also energy efficient and have high R-values, which means lower heating and cooling costs. It is estimated that up to 30% of heating or cooling costs are lost through windows. Finally, Hunter Douglas wood and hybrid shutters are Greenguard Indoor Air Quality Certified and Greenguard Child and School Certified.

We hope this information has provided you a guide to choosing the best shutter for your home. We would be glad to help you with your next design project to beautify your home and enhance your lifestyle.
